Was diagnosed with Crohns colitis 18 months ago.Have been through the different meds and Methotrexate seemed to be working whilst reducing prenisolone. Now off of steroids and am now experiencing bad aches and pains through joints and muscles (Mainly legs). Also, though still on Methotrexate my condition has deteriorated. Is this the norm and is going back to steroids the only option prior to trying the next course of medication, (infliximab) I believe. Any advise will be appreciated. Smurf
Hi Smurf, welcome.Going on steroids is not an option. You can only go on steroids for a limited time,as they can do a lot of damage to you,and are only there to kill any infection and boost your imune system.Iam afraid,as you will see my other messages, that the joint pain is part of the medication side effects for crohns. It is something we have to deal with, when we are in emission from this dreadful condition.I myself this morning was in terrible pain in my back and joints, not getting out of bed until 1.00pm,then having a hot bath with deepheat bath liquid. This helps me when im like this, but we are all different, and other remedies help. You need to accept what you have, and you need support from your family, friends. Iam always saddened to hear from fellow sufferers, and understand what it entails to live like this, day in day out.You have my sympathy.Keep a smile on your face,we are here to help. regards David.
I know this sounds silly ? but what is deep heat bath liquid and where do you buy if from ? Radox lavender helps briefly........but if there is something better than that out there then its worth trying.
i have once again been on the steriods for 3 weeks and have started to feel good after my op things have started to settle down no pain in legs no mouth ucles started to take up walking again then the doc says to start to come off them, well here we go again all the pain starts mood swings cant stop crying and as for walking thats a no go area so what do you do stay on the steriods and risk the effects or live a life of pain ????????
I completely sympathise with you. I keep getting aches and pains all over and the only way I can describe it is that my bones are aching from head to toe, literally but my doctor looks at me as if I'm talking a different language. About 2 weeks ago, I woke up and could barely move, I thought I'd pulled my back as the pain was in the lower part of my back and pelvis, however after many phone calls and eventually a visit to my GP, he diagnosed a form of arthritus of the pelvis, apparently common in Crohn's patients, but I had a temperature and he sent me off to hospital to see my consultant in case it was something more serious. My consultant agreed with what my GP had said but thought I had an abscess on my bowel and presribed 2wks antibiotics whilst I await appointments for MRI and CT scans. I'm slightly better this week, I can move more freely and less pain but the diarrohea is worse than ever. I'm signed off work for a couple of weeks, so hopefully some rest will do me good. My steroids had just been reduced to 1 a day after being on 40mg and tapering off over the past 4 months - maybe this is the cause..? Also, started Azathioprine 3wks before but had to come off it due to side effects. Drs want me to go back to full dose of steroids but I don't, the side effects are awful and I just don't feel myself, also feeling quite depressed, which I have never felt before now. I hope you get sorted soon and would like to hear how you get on. Kind regards Lou
Hi Everyone, Hope you guys are feeling a bit better since time of posting! just wanted to say what a relief in a way to read that other suffer bone/muscle pain like me. I thought I was going mad, and just imagining it. some days I am incapable of moving and "normal" life seems to be gone forever. making a bed is a huge task. I have a new puppy and trying to cope with house training is a night mare................more poo!!!! LOLOL. Seriously, I have been on steroids now constantly for 3 years and 7 months while we try to get my condition controlled. Not funny. Anyway, chin up folks, we are alltogether in suffering this and your support and thoughts are recipricated and appreciated.
