Hi,
Just got my date for my colostomy reversal...5th NOVEMBER....was just wondering if anyone else out there has had this procedure, and could offer any advise on what to expect. The original surgery was pretty rough.
Has anyone advise on recovey time post op,what I should take in Hospital with me,and generally what to expect.
Have so many feelings going through my head,so glad that I have a day set and I can get this bag of me (though Dr did say I may end up with another temp one on the other side while the first one heals !!!!!) but also remember how bad the first opp was and the complications that happened and just how ill and pain I felt.
Its going to be a long 8 weeks !!!
PS...I had "HARTMAN PROCEDURE" and have been told it wont be keyhole and they will go through original wound.
Thanks
David

Hello David, I haven't had that experience, but it doesn't sound like a good time at all. I wish you well through the procedure.

SUCCESS !!!! Ihad my reversal opp on October 5th and so far so good. The opp took about 4hrs and the only problem I had was the pain killers they gave me were meant to numb me from the chest down...I awoke and found that the only thing that was numb was my right leg !!!! Luckily I was not with it but was told later that my heart was beating 4x quicker than expeced and I had Drs and nurses around me all night pumping me full of drugs. I was in Hospital for 7 days and had the District Nurse visit me daily for about 6 weeks. My surgeon was amazed in my recovery and the fact that I had no infection...though I did have a fountain like spray come out of my clips one morning and a hole appear !! Have been left with a nice scar (44 clips) and still have a few bowl emergencies....but that can take many months to sort itself out. Still have discomfort and pain but a small price to pay. Best words I have ever heard was when I woke up after the opp and my wife said "You are bag free" have to confess I cried.
Just seen the Crohns Dr and he has put me on 'PENTASA' has anyone any experience of this drug ?
I would like to wish you all a great Christmas and I hope a painless 2010.
