Hi Everyone,

I am getting conflicting advice on this - been looking on internet, asked other Crohns parents, etc.

Consultant said there might be a syrup form available, but our GP has issued the prescription for normal tablets, and Callum can't swallow pills, had this problem all along.

I am going to spend all tomorrow now chasing about the doctors and chemist to find out how we can get around this problem.

Advice needed please.

Lynn

I've been taking Azathioprine for several years now.  I actually see no problem with crushing the pills.  I take 125mg a day, and have to cut one of them in half to make the proper dose.  They dissolve in the stomach and do not have a delay coating on them like Asacol, that dissolves in the bowel.   I also have problems swallowing pills, but only as of late.  I got choked the other day on a big fish oil pill and now I'm having trouble taking them.  I chew my calcium pills anyway.  They don't taste, just chalky.   Good luck.

They have made liquid for my Son, as it seems Aza are cycotoxic and I would be at risk of ingesting some of it if I crush them for my Son. Obviously if you are the one crushing them for yourself its ok.
