I am assuming the Methotrexate will prescribed for Rheumatoid Arthritis. It seems to be pretty much a 'standard' treatment for that now, but in addition to other medications, not to replace them. It can be oral tablets or injections. The injections help with the gastrointestinal side effect of nausea. Only about 1 out of 3 people with RA really respond well to it. You absolutely should not have alcohol with this medicine because of the effects on the liver. Combining methotrexate and Enbrel, both of which affect the disease mechanism in addition to improving its symptoms, is more effective than either one alone. And usually the earlier the treatment the better. I have never taken it, but it is primarily a cancer drug. I know several people taking it though. Hope this helps |

Methortrexate is usually tried if you can't tolerate Azathioprine (which I couldn't) |

have only tried pentassa and entocourt which i couldn't tolerate, then left for 18 months with diet only all this during a flare up, so rather think this is over kill as he said it has got a lot worse up there, more ulcers and stricture even bigger(smaller or narrower)?? not sure how to say it . But some good news have finally got the appointment through to see the nurse about the methotrexate (should have seen her first before starting the stuff) 2/12/09 tuesday at least i can ask her a few questions as district nurse who came round had never given it to crohns paitents before and knew next to nothing about it , except it can make you feel icky, even my first one i had to give myself she just watched! oh well......... but feel better today think today is a pretty goodish day at least i don't feel as tired or squeezy so here goes to attempting to get out of the house, first time in 2 weeks G.P tomorrow so can have a moan at him aswell he's great like that |
