Hi, I have had an operation for a stoma. Its not as scary as you first think. The bags are easy to use and you will be assigned a stoma nurse who will help you with anything you need to know. I was chucked in the deep end as had to have emergency surgery and had no time to prepare its a bit of a shock when you first see it.
The stoma has no feeling and doesnt really hurt. The pain from the operation was quite intense and you cant really move much but after a few days you will feel much better. It is hard to get about for the week or two and you are not allowed to do anything for about 6 weeks when you go home.
Hope this helps

They said i cant drive for 4-6 weeks, but i have read on the internet if you can do an emergency stop without pain or fear of pain it is ok to drive. No heavy lifting at all for at about the sam time period. They also said no hoovering, ironing and pretty much most housework. I know what you mean about the famly. My sister thinks i must have brought this on myself somehow!!! Good luck with the op, try yo keep positive.xx

I would be your own boss on that one.If you say you can do an emergency stop, and
feel comfortable behind the wheel, then try small trips. As long as your not on any drugs
that make you sleepy,if so dont attempt Alex.
