Hi everyone, hope you are all coping. I'm new to this! Have had a pretty bad year. Was diagnosed with Crohns September this year but was ill from April. Tried quite a few different drugs already but now have a stoma as the steroids I was on caused me to get a perferated bowel so needed emergency surgery. I have never known pain like it and the fever was the worst. The hospital staff were great and looked after me well. Its good to be able to eat pretty much what I like again. If any one wants to chat get in touch. |

Hey Sue, before my op i was doing well on the steroids but about once a week i would get really ill and pretty much would be vomiting for 24 hours whenever i wanted the toilet i would be sweating. The 1st time this happened we got the doctor out and he thought i had a stomach bug. The 2nd time my doctor sent me straight to A & E and had to stay in for a few days to be monitored and the 3 rd time things were so bad i had to have the operation. The fever was mostly hot sweats the 1 st time, but the 2 and 3 it was different my skin was really cool but i was sweating all over and my insides were on fire. The hospital said this was because of my perferated bowel and it was infecting my blood. They only realised i had this problem when they did a ct scan. The prednisalone made things worse for me as they think it may have caused the hole. I think my dose was too high!! If it all gets too much it is best to try and get to a & e. Lisaxx |

Hi Kelso, sorry to hear you've been having a rough time of things.
Which steroids were you on and have the doctors said it's definitely the steroids that caused the perforated bowel? (or was it weak anyway?) Makes me concerned it could happen to others!
Glad to hear though that you're coping well after the op.

Thanks Magpie. I was on 40mg of prednisonea day. I think it was a mix of both really, but they said steroids just made it worse. The doctors didnt realise how bad and inflammed by bowel was. The doctors thought it was a unique case. Hope you are doing well. |

Hi there,
I'm new to this forum. I've had crohns disease for 5 years now,I'm having a really bad flare up at the moment. This is such a scary disease as every flare up is different. Can make you feel so alone. You just don't know whether the doctors know what they are talking about. My docs have just given me a load of steriods without doing any sort of tests. They haven't checked up on me and it was me who had to ask to have a blood test to check everything is okay.
