My son is 4, and has crohns, he was diagnosed about 6 months ago. I would really appreciate swapping some thoughts with other mums with small children with crohns, most children that I have come across with it are aged 9+. We find it hard to understand what's his crohns is doing, and how to help managed it when he is not old enough to know what 'normal' is. Thanks

Hi, I hope you find someone on here, my Son had just turned 12 back in March when he got diagnosed. There are crohns groups on Facebook too with younger members.

whether its any help I was 7 when diagnosed. spent many many hours in hospitals travelling to different hospitals, seeing different consultants and having more blood than I cna remember being taken.

and I didnt have a clue what was going on, the pain I realised wasnt right, and with going to the toilet alot.
I was told I had to drink those special drinks ( terrible memory) that help put weight on, hated them but kinda knew I had to drink them.

The biggest thing looking back was just not understanding why I was feeling the wway I was and what was actually happening

Hi there

Im a mum with crohns and coeliac disease, my son is 3 this year and thankfully so far he is free of it.
I need to ask you a few more questions, but this may give you some thoughts/ideas. I hope Im not telling you suck eggs - please forgive me if this is nothing you don't already know.

A baby is born with a neutral system - just takes what he needs from mum in the womb and survives on you.

When you start the weaning process, breast milk, formula, solids, different tastes etc they slowly build up their own immune system and their own intolerences, the intolerences show up in different ways to adults, they don't grow as quick, they develop more coughs/colds, rashes, defects etc.

Start a diary if you can of what he eats and how it affects him, ask the doctors to provide allergy testing to see if you can knock out whats hurting him and suppliment different things - maybe gluten free might help? or lactose free rather than dairy free.

Also try jofrost website too.
