Hi all

I saw an IBD specialist at the hospital last Wednesday, who put me on mesalazine, 3 tabs twice a day (apparently a high dose to help my internals settle down some more).

I looked them up on the internet and I know pretty much everything has side effects but I wondered if people had had experiences with problems please?  I mean, I've got some of the side effects before I even started taking them, so how do I notice the difference?!

I do feel more tired but that could be due to my shoulder problem flaring up.  Maybe the shoulder is flaring because of the tablets?  I do feel sickly in my throat but that could be a coincidence since I've been eating and drinking stuff I shouldn't.

How long do I have the side effects for before I have to worry and speak to the pharmacist?

Hi,

mezalazine is a very good drug i was on it for 7 years, the side affects are really rare as my consultant told me, the tiredness is prob due to your crohns, the mezalazine does take quite a while to kick in probs a couple of months, so dont put the tiredness down to that.
after a couple of months of me taking them i was a different person, and i have really severe crohns disease.

if there is anything else you like to know, just ask me.. i've been on every medication going!

I checked up with the IBD Nurse at the hospital and she said the tablets can cause tiredness for the first few days.

Since being on tablets for the Crohn's though (pred and then mesalazine) plus a very low fibre diet, my internals definitely seem to be happier.  I can even eat wheat (my major trigger) on occasion without any massive problems!
