Hi,

Specialist has put me on Pentasa. I am on 8 x 500g per day. He did say this would be reduced but when and by how much he didnt mention.

Was wondering if anyone has been on this drug, what it was like and the dosage.

Cheers

David

Hi David,  I have been on Pentasa for about 12 years and they work for me , my dosage is 6 X 500 mg per day. Before this I was on prednisolone ,or azathioprine which weren`t great. By the way I also take 6 Loperamide per day as  well. My only setbacks are low potassium levels which has led to a few days in hospital for an I V to bring up the levels. Ihope this info helps.

I've just been diagnosed with Crohn's and also have been put on Pentasa. I've heard a lot of negatives from people basically saying it doesnt work so I really hope this is not the case! Kelsea

Hi David, I too am on pentasa. I take 6x500mg per day, and have done so since I was diagnosed 16 years ago. I have had a couple of trips to hospital and have been put on the steroid prednisolone for a week or two. I have had a rough time lately and my consultant is waiting for me to decide on surgery or azathioprine, but for the last couple of weeks I have been feeling better again, so I'm reluctant to change from something that usually works for me. As Delilah said I take loperimide too but I only take them when I need them to bind me, somedays I take more than others. I hope this medication works for you as well as it has for me.

I should just say, don't expect miracles you probably will get some signs of your crohns , but Pentasa has been very good for me.
All the best x
