Hi, I had a right hemi colectomy back in November and have had severe diarrhea ever since, infact the only difference than before the op is not having bad stomach pains.  Both my surgeon and consultant thought this was post op diarrhea, however since mid Jan, I've had real problems with my joints, some days I can barely walk as the pain and stiffness is so bad in my hips and the fatigue is back.  I've also had a skin problem for many years which flares up when my Crohns is bad and this has come back with a vengence.  I went to see my GP and he was very sympathetic and thought that the Crohns was back, so then went to my consultant who also thought the same.  I was sure it was all in my head as I had loads of diseased bowel removed and was told if I was unlucky (1 in 3 chance) then it may return within 5 years, I certainly didn't expect it to come back in a couple of months.  So went for another colonoscopy yesterday and it certainly is back.  Now on Pentassa, steroids and 6 MCP.  Let's hope it improves as I have to go back to work next week, can't afford any more time off sick.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

Cheers

Hey Lou

I've not been on the forum for ages!  If you remember me from previously, I had a hemicolectomy in July last year.  My Crohn's returned with a vengance in February, just 6 weeks after I returned to work.  I had to wait to go for tests before I got given medication - 12 weeks in total, but now on Pentasa, which actually seems to be working!  The consultant says it is very rare for it to come back so soon, and that it is still early days on the meds and things will just continue to get better.  I had to drop some days at work because I was so ill and so exhausted, but now back to full time again.  Just couldn't bring myself to be off work again so soon and got through the day puking in quiet!!  Did hope I would get a couple of years of being well before it came back, but cest la vie.   Glad your GP was sympathetic - mine told me I just had a stomach bug!!!!

I hope you are starting to feel better.

Hi Carol

Sorry to hear about you.  I'm back at work now, basically have to be, can't afford not to be.  I'm ill most days but some how manage to just carry on.  It's when I get home, I'm useless to my family as I'm so exhausted and either asleep or in the loo!  Pentasa gave me really bad side effects, so now on methotrexate - self injecting, done 14weeks so far (no improvement as yet).  Starting infliximab on 02 Aug - bit worried about this one as I've managed to get quite severe side effects from every med so far, concerned I will get bad from this, who knows but will keep you posted.

Take care and glad the Pentasa is working for you.
