Hiya everyone,
First of all I would like to thank this Forum for not making me feel so alone.  I am a new kid on the block to Crohn's Disease.  I was diagnosed last month following a right-hemi Colectomy for an abscess at my terminal illeum in December.  I am currently experiencing problems with my drain site and I was hospitalised four weeks ago with a massive abscess under my surgery scar.  I am currently on antibiotix and daily dressings.  Has anybody else experienced this post operative prob.  I have had a ct scan and ultrasound but the docs seem to think that this is just infection due to the fact that upon opening me up I also had a perforated bowel.  I find the whole thing very bewildering and frightening, I have never presented with any of the symptoms of Crohns before the discovery of the abscess in my bowel.  I am very lucky that I do not seem to be suffering from joint pain, fluid retention etc.  My bowel can be a tad unpredictive but not very much.  I am currently waiting to go on anti-immune suppresant tabs but can't until this current situation resolves. Please can anyone help with advice or support?

Hiya honey
Thanks for replying,  My surgery scar became VERy swollen, tender and sore and I also spiked a temperature when the abscess first appeared.  My first follow up appointment was just within 3 months but I was actually an inpatient at the time with this abscess, I looked a real classic sat in outpatients in my pyjamas I can tell you!  Bizarrely I am due to see my gastro-guy on April 8th, tho' god knows what he will do.  I am so desperate to just start on some treatment, I have been very ill since last august and I want my life back!  Reading some of the threads on this forum I know that I am very lucky with some of my symptoms and it breaks my heart when I read about kids having it.  I turned forty just last year (while I was ill...nice!) so I am pretty much a seasoned bird and a lot of the drawbacks of crohns won't be such a burden to me
My GP has been sent by heaven I think he is totally top and has fought my corner every step of the way, if you feel that something is not right go back to your GP, he may be able to get you to see the surgical team that opped on you as it is still early days for you.  You know your body better than anyone.
I don't know about you but I feel that I wasn't given enough info on my op etc.  What was I to eat? What could I do? How should I feel? What post-op probs could I experience?

Hi Sox.
I never had ops so dont know whats going on.(not much help!)
So do you know the answers to your questions now?
If not ring up your hospital and get them to give you a ring.

Believe me Steve when I say I never stop asking questions!  Still doesn't give me all the answers tho',  I feel that nobody wants to commit themselves to confirming or denying when you are in the hospital system.  I have worked for the NHS for years too and have background clinical experience in most acute settings.  I actually worked on an intestinal failure ward once...there's irony for you!
My surgeon has just retired too ,maybe if I haunt all the golf courses I might find him,  he was very good tho.
I am just finding that the last seven months of hospital admissions, tablets, district nursing and GP appointments is starting to wear me down.  I have never been so ill in my life and was apparently very close to septacaemia, another little nugget I only recently discovered. Damn the NHS's fear of liability scandal.  I don't want to sue...just get better!
