I'm new to this site so not sure if anyone is even going to be able to read this or not!!
I was diagnosed with Crohn's about two years ago. Since then I've seen loads of consultants and had lots of courses of steroids and azathioprine, asacol, herbal tablets and diets! Nothing made any difference and I only ever felt nearly normal when I had a really high dose of steroids. In January I stopped taking my contraceptive pill. I've been taking Yasmin the contraceptive pill since I was 16 (now 24). Since stopping the pill I've had no symptoms whatsoever and I've stopped all of the Crohn's treament. All my blood tests are normal and I've never felt so well. I have no symptoms. Now, obviously for men reading this it's not going to make any difference but if any girls reading this who have been on the pill for a long time, it's worth a try!! It may be complete coincidence but personally it was a very big coincidence.  I searched the link between the pill and Crohn's on the internet, and I know there's a lot of crap on here but I found that a very small percentage of women with Crohn's who have had prolongued use of the contraceptive pill have stopped it finding their Crohn's symptoms have completely gone.
I don't know if this will help anyone or not but if anyone's in the situation I was in and has the option to try this then it's worth trying!

Hi Tweedley,

I think this is really interesting and definitely something not many people are aware of. I have been on microgynon for 10 years now and I'm really starting to wonder about the effects it has on my crohn's. I believe I have had crohn's for around the same length of time, and whilst the pill may not have caused it, there is certainly evidence to suggest that it can worsen symptoms.

I do a lot of research about crohn's and the medication available and I am really struggling to find a suitable treatment for myself. So I am definitely going to be coming off my pill next month to see if it has any effect. As much as I love my pill & don't know what I'll do without it...if it reduces my symptoms I can actually start to have a life again and do so many of the things I've been missing out on!

So we'll see.....if it works I'll definitely try to raise awareness more.

xx

I have come off of mine after 9 years since being diagnosed last week, I hope there is some kind of link and that it will make a difference!
