Anyone had any luck getting something stronger than paracetamol prescribed for the pain? I need something stronger, but am not having much luck persuading my IBD nurse or GP. |

I'm on codine and paracetamol. I use soluble paracetamol as they work quicker and I'm not sick with them. Hope your pain eases soon. Dawn x |

Mentally you need to get mean, and then go back and insist. Also I find their attittude surprising! My doctors take a very sensible approach they listen to what I need, I think because we become more knowledgable about the diesease and can talk sensible about it. Good Luck. By the way I have Co-codamol 30/500 & also 8/500 which sorts out most things. |

For the last 5 years since being diagnosed with Crohns I've been on a constant search for pain relief. And about 4 months ago I came across zero-point energy. Not only did it help with pain relief but now 4 months later I'm totally drug and symptom free. It's completely changed my life for the better. Contact me to hear my full story. warm wishes Dom |

i found that cannabis helps alot. not only with the pain but it helps give you an appetite so makes eating easier. it can also help with the sickness and can help you relax and not worry so much. i think it should be available on the nhs to crohns sufferers. unfortunately narrow minded daily mail reading MPs are running our country so it will never happen. has anyone else found that cannabis helps? |

Cannabis has been trialled on MS sufferers for pain and found to be very effective...tablet form of course. It is available on the NHS by neurologists for some people with MS. I agree that there are more conditions where it will be effective and have fewer side effects than current pain relief...as Brian says though it may be a long time coming due to peoples attitudes towards it. They forget that most other pain relief is addictive etc and us crohnies can't use the alternatives as it would cause bleeding etc. Goose mum I think if you have pain you should go back to your GP and tell them how severe your pain is, how often etc and that you are desperate for better pain relief. |

I sympathise as I have the same problem finding adequate pain relief. I am allergic to anything containing codeine, and NSAIDs are not good for Crohn's pts. My GP gave me Tramadol, but it gave me unpleasant hallucinations and very distorted vision, which I hated. I suppose if I were to take Tramadol and go to bed it might be bearable. I would love to try cannabis for pain relief, and will ask my gastroenterologist about it. Unfortunately in my case Buscopan gave me painful colon cramps and did nothing to help the pain in my upper small bowel.
Has anyone tried Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) for pain relief/management of Crohn's and found it helped at all? The folks on the LDN forum swear by it, but few clinical trials have been done, and none have shown it to be any more effective than a placebo. So the evidence is anecdotal. |

This works for me, I take Tramadol and Buscopan as when it's needed. Paracetamol just doesn't touch the sides when things get tough for me. |
