Hi all

I've been on Azathioprine for 3 weeks now, so it's not yet in my system properly.  I am aware that it makes you more sensitive to infections, so have been as careful as possible.

Early last week I started with a sore throat and cough, and on Sunday realised it had turned into a chest infection.  I'm asthmatic also so am used to the signs and didn't want things to get worse so I went to the emergency doctor and got some antibiotics.

I didn't sleep properly Sunday and Monday night for coughing.  Tuesday morning I couldn't easily even stand upright, so I called in sick.  I also started with a cold.

I slept a little better Tuesday night but not enough to catch up with the missed sleep, so I took today (Wednesday) off also.

This morning I realised my right ear had been sore since yesterday and on gently cleaning it with an earbud, I realised I have an ear infection.  Fortunately the antibiotics will sort that out too but it would also explain my not being able to walk in a straight line!

All before the Aza's even in my system properly!  I seriously hope this isn't an indication of how I'm going to be on them, because I can't see my employer allowing me lots of time off sick.  It may just be that I'm more sensitive at the mo, I will mention it to the specialist when I go back in a couple of weeks though.

Anyone else had this kind of reaction with the Aza please?

Hi again Magpie.Yes sounds like youe imune system is low,as everyone on here who takes

these meds.Sounds like you have had everything the last few days,it should petter out

and things should get back to normal for a few months. We are now all prone to infection

and its best to clean your hands with anibactarial soaps whenever you think the situation

needs you to do this.I have knocked my knuckles, caught myself shaving, bruised my knees

and its takes weeks, not days to heal, you will find this.

be careful....David
