Hi all, Just wondering if anyone is having the same problems as me. I had a hemicolectomy about 4 years ago and after been ill for over the last year I went for a resection 4 weeks ago. I was on everyting under the sun, aza, methotraxate, thulidomide, inflixamab and lastly adalimamab. Nothing worked so thats why I went for an operation. They removed 30 cm of badly diseased bowel. My problem tho is that I think my chrohns has come back with avengance!! I have lost over a stone in weight and am always running back and forth to the toilet(bout 30+ times a day) I went back to my GP where he thinks it's come back again, and he has written to my GI doc and my surgeon. Has anyone else had this prob? If so what was suggested?
Its really getting me down as I thought this would be the fix I needed.
I had about 50cm of badly diseased bowel removed last November (tried everything with no success so had to have the op) but basically have never got better, infact if anything my loo trips are more regular 20-30 times a day. I went to my GP at the beginning of the year and said what was happening but he thought it would be rare for the crohns to return so quickly after the op, however after seeing my GI man, I had another colonscopy and it was back with avengance! I'm now on methotrexate (self inject) and infliximab starting in a few weeks. I'm in so much pain again but that was the one thing that the op stopped for a while (the pain has only been bad for a couple of months). I wish I was told before having the op about the likelihood of it returning. My GP says it's unheard of but my consultant says although rare, it does happen. Maybe we are the unfortunate ones that it happens to!
What did your GI say to you? I was told be my GP that because I have tried every thing already he does not think that me going back onto the drugs I used before the op will do any good. I am totally bewildered by it all. I do know that the surgeon left some diseased bowel in there saying that it wasnt bad enough to remove, I wish he did now!!! I am fed up of not been able to go out and about because of the toilet trips. How do you cope with things?
I'm due to have a resection in a few weeks and I've been warned by the surgeon that you have bad diarrheoa for a fews weeks after and it can take up to a year to settle completely due the bowel having to learn how to cope with being shorter. It's because of this that I've put the op of for so long as I have pain and discomfort but only go to the loo 2-3 x day usually, sometimes more but nothing like some crohnies, I don't have the option of putting it off now tho.
I really hope your Crohn's isn't back Neil, it would be awful to go thru' the op and get it back so soon.
When I had my hemicolecotomy I lasted about 6 weeks, I was feeling great apart from the pain etc. But it then came back after this. Then about a year ago, i had serveral flare ups and tried all the drugs thats why I went for the surgery. My surgeon was great and told me that I would get back to normal in around 4-6 weeks, but it has'nt. My GP has written to them saying that he thinks its flared up again but does not know what to prescribe. Thats the worst of it, it's like been back to been ill again. Im back and forth to the toilet like a yoo yoo and I'v lost so much weight. I just don't know what the next step is.
Just had word that I am going for the ASTIC trial in the next few months, as my crohns has come back BIG time. Has anyone had been to this before? Or are on the trial at the minute?
