Hey all, hope all is well in Crohns world.

Can anyone offer me any help, I have been bleeding heaveily for the last 3 weeks and had bloods tests and my markers are always normal.  I have been very sore lately and as I say bleeding everytime I go to the loo, approx 10 per day.  My GP says just get on with it, but I'm a bit confused as surely I shouldnt be like this all the time???

Thanks

Neil

Hi Neil. This is 100% not normal is there any chance you could get a appointment with your consultant. I know in the past when i have passed blood but not as much as you. my consultant or ibd nurse have seen me within a few days to get checked out. If you dont get any where with that wait till after hours and go to your local a&e and get them to check you over i have done that in the past as well. At the end of the day people cant mess around with our health.

You have internal hemroids. I have them right now also. I'm taking suppositorys called ratio-proctosone. Thru are antibacterial, steroid therapy. Don't wait so long next time Jeesh! I've had them 3 times in 12 years. Get to the dr ASAP when it happens. Don't freak out. That's what happens when they burst.

Hi Nicola,

Thanks for the reply.  I thought this was not right, I do bleed but this last we while has been really bad, plus my bloods come back OK, and my GP says it's fine.  Really confusing. My prob with seeing my GI is that my local hospital wont touch me as they kept telling me there's nowt wrong with me, I have to go to another hospital 200 miles away and my next appointment is Oct (it just came through the door)......  Does my head in!!

Cheers again

Neil

I thought I had that also, but I had a colonoscopy in Dec and they ruled that out. Also, I have been back and forth to the docs over the last 3 weeks and they dont seem to be worried. I am tho..!!

You don't need to go to your GI to get those suppositories. You can go to any Dr and ask for them. All they have to do is a finger test up your anus to determine you have them. It is kind of obvious that you have them if you see red blood in the tort and when you wipe. And yes you do need to get it looked after, otherwise you end up like my cousin who bled for a year and had to have her anus sewn up and get a bag. This is all simple stuff and some dr's just think it will all heal on it's own & sometimes it does, other times it needs help. Sometimes Dr's are stupid. Get the suppositories. It's not a narcotic and it's not going to kill anyone. If you have bleeding internal hemroids they are necessary. It's your body, you know best! & bleeding out your arse is NOT normal. Good luck.

Hey BT,

I went to my GP and he did the 'finger' test and had told me there is no internal hemmroids, as per what the colonoscopy says. He's not to sure what is causing it...

Is the blood as you wipe and you can see red in the toilet and on the tissue? They may be further up that he can't reach. Doesn't mean they aren't there. I would have asked for those suppositories anyways.

On another note. I thought I would share this with you. I had scope done by my GI in September. He said there was a cavity (hole) close to my illium that shouldn't be there and he thought it was a fistula and tried coaxing me to go on remicade and a few other drugs. He sent mentor a CAT scan the following morning to confirm the fistula. I told him there was no way I was going on those medications until received the results from the CAT scan confirming it because my disease was not active. The scan came back negative for fistula. Makes mr wonder what the hell he was doing up there during the scope! There was no cavity! Dr's aren't always right.

Another story about my grandma now. She doesn't have crohns, but she went into the hospital to have her internal hemroids removed and fixed. Our GP talked to the surgeon that was going to perform it and they admitted her in the hospital. The surgeon, knowing what she was going in for then proceeds to prep her for a scope the following day. We were all confused by this wondering why!? He then did the scope, didn't fix anything! Then he keeps her in the hospital, hasn't eaten anything in 2 days, then give her another scope on the 3rd day! And another one on the 5th day! Now she is in her 70's and diabetic and was just suppose to go in to have the hemroids removed. I was pissed off so I went to our dr and told him what was going on. He was shocked! I requested that we set up an appointment with an internist that I trusted here in town. I took her to see him and told him about her ordeal while in the hospital and all the unessesary scopes. He was horrified and asked why he did that. I told him that we didn't know and her hemroids were still there and still bleeding. He booked her in the next day at the hospital. He did do a scope on her to see where the hemroids were so he could fix them.Just another confirmation that Dr's can be wrong. Oh and to top it all off, the first Dr she had wanted her to go in for another scope a month after he did the first 3! We never went back to him. Quack quack. Lol

You should have an MRI or a CAT scan done. Are you in the UK? I hear they are doing mri's there now for people with crohns I stead of CAT scans. There's no radiation with and MRI and it's suppose to be better then A CAT scan. Ask for one, actually demand it. I know I would. They don't seem to be helping you much where ever you are. "I don't know what's causing it"'coming from a Dr's mouth wouldn't satisfy me at all! That is what they are there for, to find out what's going on. It's your body and your well being. You have a right, make them do their job.

PS. My GI is head of crohns research. He thought he saw a fistula! CAT scan said no. Blows my mind!

Hey BT,

Sorry to hear about your gran, thats crazy and needless!!!

I have just come out of hospital after getting rushed in, was in for a few nights. Saw the surgeon and he told me that there is no hemmoriods up there but he can not explain the reason why I am bleeding. I was put on morphine injections as I was so sore. By the 2nd day he had spoken to the GI consultants who turn round and said, I quote, 'its all in his head'!! F£$King RAGING I was!! So he told me to go home as there is nothing more they can do for me!!! I am still feeling like crap and still bleeding!!!

Hi Neil
Get yourself a new GP and a new consultant. I had to fight for my son (he is now 14) when he was bleeding so much it was just dripping all over the floor when he removed his clothes, and still they said there was nothing wrong with him as his bloods were normal. Eventually they saw sense and admitted that yes, there was something very wrong. He got more and more weak, losing more and more blood, more pain, until eventually he was taken in to hospital and had his colon removed and an ileostomy. Even just before surgery when the docs could see how desperately ill he was his bloods were absolutely NORMAL !! Once removed, his colon was taken to the lab and showed chronic, severe ulcerative colitis. The docs dont understand how his bloods could have been normal but they were so whenever the docs say 'nothing wrong with him, blood are normal' I remind them of this fact and dig my heels in.
Hope this helps. You 've got to put up a fight sometimes !

I have been bleeding since the end of May, not just in my stools but I can just sit on the loo and bleed sometimes.  My GP has reminded me that this is just part of 'Crohns' and nothing to be concerned about!  Seeing my consultant in a few weeks, let's see what he says.  Also a few years back I was being admitted to hospital on a monthly basis prior to having a right hemi-colectomy , my bloods were always 'normal' and they could never understand it, however just from reading the comments on this site it actually seems to be quite common, perhaps we should get the consultants to read these posts as well!

Hey Bullycat, yea my bloods always come back normal. Even though other tests show inflamation and active disease. I have changed my GP, but he has told me that he does not think another GI would look at me because my case is so complex..... But I am going into hospital for a few days this week for more tests so hopefully they will get to the bottom of this and sort me out. How is your son now? Hope he is better!!
Cheers

Hey alex, Have you had a white cell scan? Its where they take some blood, remove the red cells(leave the white cells) and then put the blood back into you. They then scan you about 4 hours later, the white cells attach to the inflammed areas and this shows up on the ct scan.

My consultant and IBD nurse have told me that I ought to go to A&E if I start bleeding. It needs proper investigations and should never be ignored. I think some of the docs need to come on here and read this! It is too long to be so unwell. Let us know how you are, J
